Declouet Makes the Switch

Jaydrick Declouet

Jaydrick Declouet, the three-star WR from Patterson (La.), withdrew his pledge to Vanderbilt this afternoon and decided to join teammate Trevon Stewart on the University of Houston's commitment list.

"It happened right before practice today," said Jaydrick Declouet. "I called Coach (Jason) Phillips and he asked me, 'What's up?' I told him I'm ready to become a Cougar. He was real happy. He said, 'Yeah! That's great!'

"Then he put me on the phone with Coach (Kevin) Sumlin. He didn't tell Coach Sumlin that I had committed and Coach Sumlin asked me, 'What's it going to take for you to become a Cougar?'

"I told him I committed and he was really excited."

Declouet, who led his team to the Class 3A state finals in 2010, joins teammate -- three-star athlete Trevon Stewart (CB/WR/RB) -- on the Cougars' commitment list.

"Trevon always speaks highly of Houston and I like that they have an offense that passes the ball a lot," said Declouet, who caught a last minute, game-changing pass to set up the winning score in the '10 quarterfinals.

"I wish I would have gone to Houston's game against UCLA last weekend. I did watch it on TV and I liked it."

Declouet and Stewart are both ready to get on the field this week after last Friday's opener vs. Crowley was canceled due to Tropical Storm Lee.

"We're fired up," said Declouet. "We're not supposed to have a bye week and so we're ready to play."

Patterson, which is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A by, takes on 5A Central Lafourche tomorrow night. As a junior, Declouet hauled in 60 receptions for 1,200 yards and 16 TDs. Recommended Stories
