Nine Vanderbilt seniors make up the first class to ever play in two bowl games during their Commodore careers. Leading up to the Liberty Bowl, VandyMania.com will look back on each senior's career. In this segment Chris Marve is featured.
THE BASICS:
Chris Marve
Hometown: Memphis, Tenn.
High school: White Station
Position: LB
HT: 6-2 WT: 242
Chose
Vanderbilt
over: No other known offers.
OVERVIEW:
A tackling machine, Marve is another player who found his way to Vanderbilt despite little interest from other FBS schools. Like Casey Hayward, Marve saw instant playing time at Vanderbilt. Incredibly, he started all 13 games during the 2008 season as a redshirt freshman making 105 tackles and 3 sacks. During the Ole Miss game, Marve made a play that was pivotal in the Commodores making it to a bowl (see below). The very intense, focused Marve was named a team co-Captain before both the 2010 and 2011 seasons. However, Marve has been a consummate leader ever since he stepped on the Vanderbilt campus. His hard work and attitude has served as a model for his teammates to emulate. Marve, one of the top career tacklers in Vanderbilt history with 391, can top 400 with a good showing in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, a bowl played in his hometown.
BEST MOMENT:
Ole Miss, 2008. Marve finishes his third game as a Commodore with 11 tackles and a forced fumble. The fumble was forced at the goal line as a Reb running back was crossing into the end zone. A teammate recovered the ball and the Commodores dodged a bullet thanks to the youngster Marve.
MEMORABLE QUOTE:
(about practice) "I'm playing every snap like I'm playing a game on Saturday, that's the only way you can prepare. I feel personally you have to play 150 percent every snap in order to prepare yourself for this level of competition, especially in the SEC." Marve on August 11, 2010 after practice.

2009,2010, 2011: 2nd Team All-SEC (Coaches); 2011: 2nd Team All-SEC (AP); 2009: Freshman All-American; 2009: First Team Freshman All-SEC (Coaches)
