The Chicago Cubs selected Vanderbilt junior right-handed pitcher Robert Ransom in the 23rd round of the Major League Baseball draft on Wednesday. Ransom was the draft's 673rd overall pick.
"I never had a specific team that I hoped would draft me, but I'm happy it happened to be the Chicago Cubs," Ransom said. "I'm good friends with (current Cubs starting pitcher) Mark Prior and they have a great organization. I definitely wouldn't mind pitching at Wrigley Field one day."
Ransom compiled a record of 4-3 this past season and had an earned run average of 4.08.
