"This is the happiest day of my life," said Sealand, who signed scholarship papers with Vanderbilt in a signing day ceremony at his school Wednesday. "I can't wait to get up there and start a new career."
Surrounded by friends and family in an auditorium full of his teachers and fellow students, Sealand officially fulfilled a months-long commitment to offer his talents to Coach James Franklin and staff.
Miami had made a late run for Sealand, he said, but as he put it, "I never wavered."
His defensive end teammate Josh Dawson did waver, however. A few moments after Sealand signed, Dawson put on a Georgia cap and inked with the Bulldogs. Dawson had spent months as a Vanderbilt commitment, but made a final decision at 10 pm Tuesday night to flip to Georgia.
"He called me last night to tell me, so I knew what he was going to do," Sealand said of Dawson. "I truly wish him the best, and I can't wait to play against him."
