VU Season Ticket Sales Surging

It looks like the buzz around the Vanderbilt football team’s successful 2011 season is not dying down any time soon.
Season tickets have been selling through the roof as more and more fans want to lock up seats to the entire six game home schedule the Commodores will be playing in 2012. Through May 2nd
Vanderbilt
has sold 12,700 season tickets, easily surpassing the 12,489 tickets that were sold a year ago. This surge in sales shows no sign of slowing down as fans look forward to the highly anticipated season opener on August 30th against
South Carolina
.
According to Director of Communications Rod Williamson this sales figure is just the beginning.
“We are selling them daily and by the time I give you a figure it will have changed several times,” said Williamson. “Suffice to say that we are well ahead of last year's sales pace but we want to emphasize that there are plenty of good seats available. We anticipate a strong July-August sales period as football fans realize our program has really transformed in a little over a year."
Many have attributed the change in Vanderbilt fortunes to the drive, passion, and excitement that is created by head coach
James Franklin
. Franklin has a sense of school spirit which is contagious, and he is already pumped up for the opener hoping to get the Vanderbilt faithful out in full force. "It's a great start but it's not close to where we need to be for the first game," Franklin said. "Vanderbilt Stadium should be sold out full of Commodore fans when the Gamecocks come to town for that Thursday night game."
Athletic officials and others associated with the program expect no let down in season ticket sales over the football free summer months. A targeted marketing campaign is being driven to tap in to both current season ticket holders and the estimated 30,000 strong Vandy contingent who travelled to the Liberty Bowl in Memphis. This push is being helped by attractive new ticket pricing levels which should lead to a stadium full of black and gold clad supporters for every home game this fall.
