Well, maybe not the second line (see inside). This marks the first football meeting of the two newcomers and the old SEC in conference games. Football drove this shotgun marriage, and the noobs will have something to prove. Funny how both games are on the road for the old SEC…I wonder how that happened?

The traditional cupcakes: Western Kentucky @ Alabama - No contest. Tide 42 – WKU 10.

Louisiana-Monroe @ Arkansas - No contest. Arkansas 35 – LA-M 7

Washington @ LSU - No contest. LSU 31 – Washington 10

East Carolina @ South Carolina - East Carolina has given the Gamecocks fits on occasion over the last several years, but that time is past. USC 31 – ECU 21.

Georgia State @ UTK – Nolo contendere. UTK 49 – GSU 3.

And then there are the cupcake that aren’t, any more:

Kent State @ Kentucky – The Mildcats looked pretty bad against Louisville last week, but in their defense, Louisville is appears to be a pretty good team. They have a chance to make amends and get on the plus side of the ledger this week. UK 24 – Kent State 14

UTEP @ Mississippi – Can the Bears be as bad a they looked last week? Maybe, but they should have enough to get past UTEP. Mississippi 17 UTEP 7.

And now for the real games:

Auburn @ Mississippi State – The Bulldogs are favored. My computer says there aren’t enough cowbells in the world to make it happen. Auburn 21 – MSU 17

Florida @ Texas A&M – TAMU didn’t get to play last week to get the kinks out. Florida played, and demonstrated plenty of kinks to work on. Does that make it a kinky game? The Opening game experience for the Gators will be the difference in this one. Florida 27 – TAMU 18

Georgia @ Missouri – I have no clue for this game, as Mizzou is a mystery team here in East. I trust the SEC refs to shaft the newcomers on general principles. Georgia 24 – Missouri 20.

Vanderbilt @ Northwestern - The importance of this game to Vanderbilt cannot be overstated. In the past, to be slightly favored in a game after a close loss to a powerful opponent has been the kiss of death. History is on the side of Same Ol’ Vandy, but I’m with Henry Ford for now……”History is Bunk”. VU 37 – NW 24
