Vanderbilt vs. Houston in BBVA Compass Bowl

Tonight Vanderbilt officials accepted a bid to play in the school's seventh bowl game. The Commodores will face the University of Houston on January 4th, 2014 in the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham.

The Commodores have played in one previous bowl game in Birmingham. Vanderbilt, which finished the 2013 regular season with an 8-4 record, played in the Hall of Fame Bowl in 1982 in a game which drew over 70,000 fans to Legion Field.

Houston also finished its regular season with an 8-4 record. The Cougars, of the American Athletic Conference, most recently defeated SMU 34-0. Houston also had notable wins over Rutgers (49-14), South Florida (35-23), Rice (31-26), and Temple (22-13. The Cougars suffered close losses to BYU (47-46), UCF (19-14), and Louisville (20-13).
