3-star TE: Got a cold feeling from Franklin

Daniel Imatorbhebhe

Vanderbilt is facing stiff competition to land Daniel Imatorbhebhe out of North Gwinnett High School (Suwanee, Ga.). The 6-foot-4, 220-pound tight end prospect has SEC foes Florida, Kentucky, and Missouri knocking at his door, but the Commodores got in the mix with an offer on March 29th from Atlanta-area recruiter, Charles Bankins.

"I remember calling (Vanderbilt) the night Wisconsin and Arizona played in the Elite Eight," Imatorbhebhe told VandyMania.com. "Coach Bankins told me that I had an offer and so did my younger brother, Josh (link to bio), who is in the class of 2016. He told me that he thinks I'd fit well into the program and the school. They're looking for guys who focus in the classroom because football eventually ends and it's not a decision for the next four years it's a decision for the next forty. They like recruiting guys from my high school. Caleb Scott signed with them in February. He was telling me they run a lot of two, sometimes even three tight end sets.

"I feel like Vanderbilt is a program on the cusp of doing pretty big things. They offer great academics and the chance to play in the best conference, the SEC. I'm glad Coach Mason is the head coach. My feelings for Vandy probably wouldn't be the same if Coach Franklin was still there. I went to camp and just got a cold feeling from him. It's different with Coach Mason. He's the kind of coach you want to play for and rally around."

Playing with seniors Nate Brown (Missouri) and Caleb Scott (Vanderbilt) in 2013, Imatorbhebhe still had 29 catches for 358 yards and two touchdowns on a team that was runner-up in Georgia Class AAAAAA.

"It was amazing that Nate (Brown) got the player of the year considering the wide receivers and tight ends we had," Imatorbhebhe said. "We run a spread and I'm inside right in the Y-position. Almonzo Brown, who has a lot of SEC offers, is going to be inside right. My brother is going to play outside receiver. We shouldn't miss a beat."

A decision could come soon for Imatorbhebhe. He made recent visits to Missouri and Wake Forest. He also holds offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Florida, Kentucky, Nebraska, and Yale.

"I'm probably not going to wait too long on a decision," stated Imatorbhebhe. "I want to go to a program that doesn't take short cuts and values the person over the player. God will let me know where go. I do plan on going to Vanderbilt next Friday [Apr. 18]. I do have a favorite. It's Missouri. I really liked the visit I took last Friday and Saturday."
