Jackson Harris talks Vanderbilt

Jackson Harris

Jackson Harris, out of Columbia Central (Columbia, Tenn.) has 35 offers to his credit and recently made his top ten with Vanderbilt University in the mix. VandyMania.com caught up with Harris for the latest on his recruiting season.

"Vanderbilt was the first school to offer me," said Harris. "I've been there quite a few times since it's just an hour away. I went to the spring game and got to hang out with the coaches. It went well. It's a different atmosphere with the new coaches over there. I think that they're all great people. As a whole, I like Vanderbilt. It's a place I think a lot of.

"Coaches have told me that they like my versatility. On offense I can do a variety of things like lining up at receiver, slot, or attached to the line. I've played everywhere. I can do well with blocking and also run good routes and make plays in space."

Harris listed his top ten as Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Florida, South Carolina, Ohio State, Purdue, Penn State, Florida State, and Vanderbilt.

"I'm just going along the way I feel the recruiting progress," he said. "I don't know if I'll shorten the list or not. I could make a commitment as early as next month.

"The academics are important to me. I'm looking at Engineering. That's huge for me. I want to play in an offense that fits my ability. The coaches and players there is something else I'll look at. I want to be able to enjoy myself for the next four or five years."

Harris has made visits to Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Vanderbilt thus far. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound tight end has started since his freshman year at Columbia Central. He was a first team All-District performer as a junior. Currently, he's competing in shot put and the 100-meter dash in track & field.
