Felton Davis has seen his recruitment explode this spring. Now, the 2015 Highland Springs (Va.) wide…
Academics important to Davis
"Vanderbilt's an offer that really stands out to me. They have the best academics around and play in what's widely considered to be the greatest conference for football. My dad is originally from Tennessee so it's a place I'm familiar with and definitely plan on taking a visit sometime this summer to Nashville."
Major offers for Davis include Illinois, Michigan State, Nebraska, Purdue, Wisconsin, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Missouri, and Vanderbilt. He's kicking off his summer campus tours with a weekend visit to Morgantown.
"I'm going to take things slow and see how it plays out," Davis said on the recruiting process. "When it feels right, I'll make my decision. The thing I look for the most is organization. I'm looking to see how I'll fit in at the university and will talk a lot with the academic advisers. I want to talk with the coaches and the players and get their take on how it is to be there as a student-athlete.
"As far as an offense goes, I like the spread but it doesn't really matter as long as I know I'll be getting some touches and can impact a game."
Davis made a big impact on the Springers' 2013 season, his second as a varsity starter. He only had 18 catches on the season but he scored touchdowns on 10 of those grabs for 466 yards. His team went 8-3 on the season and Davis was named first team All-Conference (Virginia Class 5A- Conference 11).
"We're up in the air right now," Davis said on his team's 2014 chances. "We're trying to find a new quarterback and a rising senior and a sophomore are battling for the job. We're thin at offensive line too, but the defense is looking sharp. We should improve as the year goes on. I want to get at least 1500 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns."
