Jake Bradford, a tall tight end from Brunswick (Ga.) Glynn Academy, has committed to Vanderbilt, family members told VandyMania Friday.

Jake Bradford, a tall tight end from Brunswick (Ga.) Glynn Academy, has committed to Vanderbilt.

The 6-foot-7, 240-pounder made an unofficial visit last weekend for Vanderbilt's Homecoming game and had an encouraging meeting with Commodore coaches. On Monday he received a verbal offer from Vandy, and after thinking it over for 36 hours, he called the staff on Wednesday morning with his decision.

Bradford's other offers were from Central Florida and Ball State, although Georgia Tech and Duke had also had serious talks with Bradford in the past few weeks. He becomes the sixth high school player to commit to Vanderbilt for 2005, and the fourth in the last week (joining WR/DB Justin Wheeler, OL Eric Hensley and DL Wyatt Batchelor).

Last year Bradford led his team in pass receptions, but this year the team went to a split-T offense which limited Bradford's role mostly to blocking. Still, he managed three touchdown receptions. Besides being a tight end, Bradford kicked and punted (for a 42-yard average, a school record). In basketball he starts at center, and also plays soccer.

National signing day is Feb. 4, 2005.
