Thomas Welch, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound tight end from Brentwood High School, committed to Vanderbilt over the weekend on his official visit. "It was awesome," Welch said of the visit. He was hosted on his visit by another Brentwood product, defensive end Richard Freeman.
Welch didn't wait until the traditional Sunday morning meeting with the coaches to make his decision. "I went ahead and did it Saturday night," he said. "My parents said if I was ready, I should go ahead and tell them." Welch, who chose the Commodores over an offer from Memphis, becomes Vandy's 21st commitment for 2005.
