Men's Hoops: VU to host Houston in NIT
NIT

Posted Mar 11, 2002

The Vanderbilt Commodores (16-14) will face the University of Houston Cougars (18-14) in the opening round of the NIT at Memorial Gym on Wednesday.

Vanderbilt potentially could play six games in the NIT if they advance all the way to the title game at Madison Square Garden. This is because of the NIT's new expanded field (40 teams).

Houston finished the season 18-14 (8-6), good for second place in the Conference USA's National Division. The Cougars won two games in the Conf USA's tournament before falling to Marquette 85-73.

Houston is currently rated #81 in the RPI while Vanderbilt is rated #59.

Vanderbilt and Houston have two common opponents. Houston beat LSU 73-69 and beat Tulane twice 69-66, 85-81. Vanderbilt split with LSU, beating them 68-63 and losing to them 69-62. The Commodores lost at Tulane 87-77.
