Football: UT game moves to Adelphia
Team runs on field

Posted May 23, 2002

The 2002 Vanderbilt-Tennessee football game, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23, will be played in Adelphia Coliseum, Commodore Director of Athletics Todd Turner has announced.

It marks the second time for Vanderbilt to host the Volunteers in Adelphia, the downtown Nashville home of the Tennessee Titans. In the 2000 game at Adelphia, the Volunteers withstood a furious Commodore rally to preserve a thrilling 28-26 victory. The game, played before a capacity crowd of 68,360, featured the largest home audience to ever see a Vanderbilt game.

"Our experience two years ago at Adelphia was positive," Turner said. "Our football team enjoyed playing before the capacity crowd, and the feedback from our fans was quite good. We learned some things concerning seat locations that will benefit Commodore fans this time."

Commodore Head Coach Bobby Johnson, in his first year at Vanderbilt, said the team is excited about returning to Adelphia. "I've been told the game in 2000 provided a great atmosphere for college football. Our players enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to returning this year," he said.

VU-UT tickets go on sale to the general public July 30. Upper bowl tickets are $40, lower bowl tickets $50 and club level tickets $75. For an additional $25, Faculty/Staff and Commodore fans that hold Sideline Season Tickets can upgrade to the Club Level.

The Commodores' seven-game home schedule features several SEC traditional powers, including South Carolina, Alabama, Florida and Tennessee.

Vanderbilt season tickets are on sale at the athletic department on campus and on-line at www.vucommodores.com. Season ticket renewals will be accepted until May 31. For information, call the Vanderbilt Athletic Box Office at 322-GOLD or 1 (877) 44-VANDY.
