Photo Story: Black and Gold scrimmage

The Vanderbilt football team conducted its 2006 Black and Gold scrimmage Saturday at Vanderbilt Stadium. An enthusiastic crowd of 1,500 witnessed the 66-play, 16-series session. VandyMania's Stan Jones compiled this photo story of the scrimmage.


Redshirt freshman Mackenzi Adams gets ready to take the snap from center. Adams completed 21-44, 145 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.


Adams gets sacked by fellow redshirt freshman Broderick Stewart. Stewart had a good day, garnering 2 sacks of Adams.


Junior to be Cassen Jackson-Garrison runs for yardage. Jackson-Garrison had 4 rushes for 13 yards and one touchdown on the day.


Head Coach Bobby Johnson watches the action from the sideline.


The forgotten heros of the trenches battled throughout the day.


Darlron Spead is one of many play hungry redshirt freshmen anxious to see action in 2006.


The Vanderbilt defense huddles before another play. The black clad defenders harassed the offense most of the game.
Linebacker Jonathan Goff gets a nice tackle on a white team receiver. Goff had four tackles and an interception for the black team.


Redshirt freshman running back Jared Hawkins gains yardage on a run. Hawkins led all rushers with 32 yards on 7 carries.


Reshard Langford returns an interception as quarterback Mackenzi Adams pursues him.


Quarterback Chris Nickson watches the action from the sideline. Nickson was bothered with a hamstring injury and was unable to participate in the scrimmage.


Fullback Steven Bright bulls forward for yardage. A bright spot for the offense, Bright had 3 catches for 39 yards and a touchdown.


The defense continued to make life miserable for the offense throughout the day.
