Price and USA shut down China, 5-0

DURHAM- David Price threw seven innings of one-hit shutout baseball to lead the USA Baseball National Team to a 5-0 win over Chinese Taipei Tuesday afternoon at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. USA improved to 6-0 over Chinese Taipei.

Price (1-0) gave up the hit in the third inning to Lee Yi Wei, the only base knock for Taipei on the day. The rising junior struck out 11 and walked just one and has not given up a run in two starts this summer with 21 strikeouts and only two walks.

The shutout was the second in three games for the US and the third of the series.

The National Team improved to 6-0 on the season and against Chinese Taipei. The teams will close out their seven-game friendship series tomorrow night at 7 p.m. ET in Burlington, NC.

Tennessee's Julio Borbon got Team USA off to a quick start with a leadoff homer to rightfield. The US added another run in the inning, when Sean Doolittle (Virginia) doubled to left and scored when Taipei leftfielder Wu Ming I dropped a liner off the bat of Pedro Alvarez (Vanderbilt). <>P Those would be the only runs scored in the contest until the eighth inning when Julio Borbon knocked in a run with a double to right-center and then scored on Sean Doolittle's homer to right. Both players led the US with two hits and two RBI apiece.

Relievers Tommy Hunter (Alabama) and Daniel Moskos (Clemson) closed out the game with an inning of no-hit perfect relief each.

Chinese Taipei starter Mai Chia Jui (0-1) was charged with the loss after giving up two runs, one earned, in five innings of work.
