The Arkansas Times is reporting that former Vanderbilt announcer Paul Eells was killed in an automobile accident Monday night. Eells was the play-by-play voice for Vanderbilt football and basketball from 1967-1978.

The Times reports that Eells died in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 40 in Russellville, Ark. The driver of the other car, Billie Jo Burton of Dover, also was killed.

Eells, who was much loved by Vanderbilt fans, had worked for KATV in Arkansas since 1978 and was the voice of Arkansas Razorback athletics.

Eells is survived by his wife, Vickie. They have one son Brandon, who lives in Little Rock and two daughters who reside in Nashville.

Thoughts and prayers go out from the VandyMania staff to the Eells family during this time of great loss.
