Tuscaloosa-- Alabama's Leigh Tiffin kicked a 47-yard field goal to lift Alabama past Vanderbilt, 13-10. The Crimson Tide rallied from a 10-3 halftime deficit to hand Vanderbilt its first SEC loss of the 2006 season.

Tiffin’s field goal capped a 12 play, 49-yard drive that was keyed by a 36-yard pass completion from Alabama quarterback John Parker Wilson to receiver Nikita Stover.

Alabama tied the score in the third quarter when quarterback John Parker Wilson completed a 31-yard scoring pass to D.J. Hall. Wilson had a fine day passing for Alabama, completing 18 of 29 for 205 yards and a touchdown. He was intercepted once.

Vanderbilt had two offensive possessions after Alabama took the lead but couldn't generate sufficient offense. Vanderbilt quarterback Chris Nickson completed 15 of 23 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted 3 times. The final interception was on the last play of the game.

Earlier, with the score knotted at 3-3, Vanderbilt's D.J. Moore recovered Tim Castille's fumble at the Vanderbilt 13. Nickson then led the Commodores on an 11 play, 81 yard drive. Nickson's 6-yard scoring pass to sophomore Earl Bennett gave Vandy a 10-3 halftime lead.

In the first quarter Tiffin kicked a 37-yard field goal on Alabama's second possession of the game to give the Tide a 3-0 lead. In the second quarter a Reshard Langford interception put Vanderbilt in excellent field position and the Commodores struck back with a Bryant Hahnfeldt 42-yard field goal to tie the game at 3-3.

Vanderbilt falls to 0-2 (0-1 SEC) with the loss. The Commodores will face the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday in their home opener. Alabama improves to 2-0 (1-0 SEC). The Crimson Tide next hosts Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.
