Vanderbilt wins SEC
East
Vanderbilt picked up its first divisional
championship since 1974 when they defeated Auburn on Saturday. The Commodores have a chance to pick up
their first SEC Conference title since 1980 with a series win this weekend.
Hard hitting
Commodores
Vanderbilt leads the SEC in hitting with a
.329 average. Vandy pounded home 20
runs and had 5 home runs against Auburn over the weekend. Pedro Alvarez bombed the Tigers as he
had 6 hits in 12 at bats. Dominic
de la Osa tallied a .462 average for the Auburn series and had 3 doubles. Shea Robin had 5 hits along with Ryan Flaherty, who has a 21 game hitting streak.
Commodores come home and host
LSU
After a 6 game road trip Vanderbilt returns
home for a Thursday through Saturday series with much improved LSU. LSU (29-23-1, 12-14-1 SEC) must win 2 of
3 at Vanderbilt to have a chance to make the SEC Tournament. Vanderbilt must win 2 of 3 over the
Tigers to be assured the SEC Regular season championship. Thursday and Friday's games start at 7
p.m. Saturday's action starts at
noon.
Other Key SEC match ups (other than
Vanderbilt-LSU)
Alabama at Mississippi State- Both teams
need a series win to be assured a spot in the SEC Tourney. State may get in
with just 1 win. Ole Miss at
Arkansas- Ole Miss likely needs to win 1 of 3 to get to Hoover. Arkansas is a
lock for Hoover but needs to win 2 of 3 to win the SEC Title (Vandy must be swept by LSU for this to happen).
Auburn at Kentucky- Auburn will not be in Hoover this season but Kentucky
needs to win 2 of 3 to be assured a spot.
Tennessee at Florida- The Vols likely need to sweep Florida. Florida can win just 1 and still likely
get in the tournament. Georgia at
South Carolina- Georgia has no chance to get to the tournament and South
Carolina should be in even if the Bulldogs sweep them. Click HERE to order your copy of the 2007 Vanderbilt Football Preview Magazine.
