The 6-5, 225-pound Barden comes to Vandy from Lincoln County High School which is located north of Augusta. Playing as a quarterback Barden led his team to two straight Georgia Class A state championship teams in 2005 and 2006.
Vanderbilt head coach Bobby Johnson is pleased to have Barden on his squad, "Brandon has tremendous upside and can really run for a guy his size. He's a smart young man and has superb football knowledge, having been mentored in one of Georgia's most successful high school programs," said the coach.
During his senior season Barden rushed for just over 600 yards and 13 touchdowns. He passed for 520 yards and seven touchdowns for Lincoln County. As a receiver early in the 2006 season, Barden also caught 10 passes for 181 yards and two scores. As a junior Barden ran for 16 touchdowns, guiding the Red Devils to their first state title since 1995.
