"He runs really well. He is very physical and has a defensive mentality. He really likes contact," Turner said. "He is a great track guy too. He looks and is built like a safety. He is also a very smart kid. His dad played college football at Colgate so he comes from a good family. He is smart, athletic, and runs really well. He is the type of kid that everyone is looking for."
Several schools already like what they see from Al Owens. Two Big 12 schools in particular have started showing him a lot of interest.
"Right now, he is getting info from Kansas State and Oklahoma State. Those are the only Big 12 schools," Turner said. "I see those because they come through my office. He is getting more, but I'm not sure who they are from."
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Owens attended Kansas States' football camp over the summer where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. Coach Turner believes that he has the potential to play either safety or outside linebacker on the next level.
Springtown High School is home to a very talented defensive back. Al Owens brings speed, aggressiveness, and intensity to the safety position at Springtown. Head Coach Brad Turner raved about Owens athletic ability and smarts on and off the football field.
