Madrid, Spain - August 19, 2007. Saturday was the team’s last day in Spain with the final game of the tour scheduled for Saturday evening. So how did players on the team spend their last day in Spain?

For Ashlee Bridge, Merideth Marsh and Tina Wirth, the day started with a trip to a Laundromat. During the academic year, the team’s managers launder the team’s practice uniforms and game uniforms. Usually on international tours, someone from the travel agency does the laundry. But on this tour, the Vanderbilt players washed the team’s uniforms after the games.

The players were divided into three groups, with each group having the responsibility for laundry after one of the three games. On Saturday, Ashlee, Merideth, and Tina were responsible, which is why they were sitting in a laundromat on their last day in Spain.

After laundry, they joined the rest of the group for a guided bus tour of Madrid.

After the bus tour, everybody was given the choice of either going on a guided tour of the world-famous Prado Museum, or going “on your own” until time for the pregame meal at 3 p.m.

The game was in the same gym as Friday night’s game located in the outskirts of Madrid. The opponents were players from club teams in the Madrid area.

Jen Risper’s ankle was better, but she had to get the okay to play from Michele Loftis, the team’s athletic trainer.

Early Sunday morning as the sun began to rise over the city of Madrid, it was time to return home.

With suitcases packed with clothes and souvenirs and their minds filled with memories that will last a lifetime, the team said Adios to Spain at the Madrid airport and soon were on their way home to the United States.
