AREA GRADE COMMENTS
PASSING OFFENSE
C+
Mackenzi Adams had a decent day passing and had the honor of completing the record setting passes to Earl Bennett. Nice work by Bennett getting the 8 receptions for the record. He can now work on getting some distance between him and second place.
RUSHING OFFENSE
A-
Vanderbilt pounded out 290 total yards on the ground during the game. Cassen Jackson-Garrison and Jared Hawkins combined for 138 of those yards. A couple fumbles was the only blemish on an otherwise good day running the ball.
PASSING DEFENSE
B
Vanderbilt gave up their only touchdown of the last 9 quarters to Miami through the air in the second quarter when Jamal Rogers caught a 40-yard scoring pass. Miami, a good passing team, gained 212 yards through the air. For the second consecutive week the VU defense picked up multiple sacks.
RUSHING DEFENSE
A
Vandy won the ground game on both on offense and defense. Austin Sykes was Miami's leading ground gainer of the game; he gained 49 yards on 10 attempts which isn't really that bad. But as a team Miami gained a paltry 26 yards on the day. Vanderbilt had 12 tackles for loss on the day. Jonathan Goff led Vandy in tackles with 11.
SPECIAL TEAMS
B-
Bryant Hahnfeldt made a 26-yard field goal in the second quarter to tie the score at 10. Excellent returns by D.J. Moore and Alex Washington. Thomas Welch's fumbled but luckily it didn't lead to any of Miami's scores. Brett Upson finished with a 36-yard net punting average which is good.
COACHING
B
Great work keeping the team in focus after a huge win. While this game wasn't pretty at times at least it ended with the good guys on top. Nice work getting figuring working out the quarterback situation. Vanderbilt has three quarterbacks that are capable of moving the offense.
OVERALL GRADE
B
Vanderbilt just won their biggest game of the year. Now Florida is the next biggest game of the year. Keep focused and get ready for some wounded but angry Gators. A road win over the Gators would likely vault Vandy into the top 25 and go a long, long way towards their first bowl bid in 25 years
