seemed to have everything go wrong in a hurry during this week's game. All the madness started with Broderick Stewart
being called for a roughing the kicker penalty (following a successful stop by the ‘Dore defense) and it just got worse from there. After the offense had looked very impressive for three quarters they went into hiding for the last quarter. Hahnfeldt then missed another crucial kick. I will say that even in defeat the Commodores showed the opposing team that the gap is virtually non-existent between these two once very lopsided teams. On to Wake Forest
(winner over N.C. State this past weekend) and grabbing that elusive sixth win of the season and a possible bowl bid.
#47 THE LB Jonathan Goff
Jonathan Goff makes his return to the Stunners MVP award. Goff, Senior and Captain of this year's defense along with last week's winner, Theo Horrocks
, led the Commodores in tackles with 14 tackles ( 7 solo). Goff helped the Commodore defense hold the Volunteers to field goals rather than touchdown's which gave Vanderbilt all the chance in the world to win this game.
#4 Alex Washington
Alex Washington gets the nod here for offensive stunner for coming up big when he had to. After Vanderbilt Offensive Captain and SEC leading receiver Earl Bennett
AND Sean Walker
left the game due to injury, a Commodore receiver had to step up and Washington did just that. Washington caught 3 balls for 45 yards in relief of his injured teammates.
#24 Marcus Buggs
Marcus is this week's defensive stunner for his increasingly aggressive play at the line of scrimmage. Marcus has showed his speed in the last two games chasing opposing backs all across the field in order to force little or no gain on designed screens and runs. Buggs and the rest of the defense failed to sack quarterback Erik Ainge
but they did force Ainge to release many balls before he wanted to.
#17 D.J. Moore
Trailing in the game and needing a big return Commodore CB/WR/KR D.J. Moore begged the coaching staff to let him help the Commodores out by inserting him into the game. The staff, to their credit, switched up the return blocking and let D.J. give it a go. The result was a 55-yard return putting Vanderbilt in great field position. The return swung momentum back in Vanderbilt's favor and gave the Commodore offense a chance to win the game.
#9 QB Mackenzi Adams
Mac's stats are not what Fergie would call glamorous but the three touchdowns were impressive. Mac connected with a wide-open Jeff Jennings
for the Commodores Offensive Play of the Day.
Gabe Hall......I hear ya.
