The Commodores got off to a hot start opening the first half on a 20-6 run that was capped by a Foster jumper. Ogilvy had 8 of those 20 points.
Eddie Ard led the Bisons in scoring with 18. The only other Bison in double figures was Thomas Pfaff with 15. The Commodores played excellent defense holding the Bisons to just 37.5% shooting from the field.
With 12:27 left in the second half Lipscomb cut the Vanderbilt lead to 54-46 on a jumper by Ard. That was as close as the Bisons would get because Foster hit three pointers on the next 3 possessions and made 2 free throws on the fourth.
After the game, Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings commented on the Lipscomb second half run, "I wasn't disappointed that our lead got to eight points. I was disappointed that we started off the second half fouling. I was disappointed that we put them to the foul line 18 times in the second half. Obviously, that was a problem. Some of that came from the fact that we lost our intensity on the boards. I'm happy with the fact that we went to our guys that we needed to go when things got like that."
This was a good win for the Commodores because Lipscomb is a team they could have easily overlooked. This Bisons came into the game hyped up to play against an SEC opponent. The Commodores quickly put out the Lipscomb fire with their hot start.
The Commodores will try to open the season 10-0 on Wednesday night when they travel to DePaul. That game tips off at 7 p.m.
