FACILITIES UPGRADES: July 19, 2008

Posted Jul 20, 2008

In May, Vanderbilt announced plans for a multi-million dollar upgrade of athletics facilities, and VandyMania.com has been tracking the work in progress. Here are the latest photos.

Inside Memorial Gym, work continues in replacing the old gym floor with a new one that will be kinder to the bones and joints of the athletes who spend many hours on the hardwood.

The parking lot on the east side of McGugin was in the midst of being re-surfaced.

The brickwork on the new facade outside the stadium continues to progress.

The harmony between Hawkins Field and the new enhancements at Dudley Field is becoming increasingly apparent.

The makeover of the tunnel entrance at the end of the Star Walk continues. Both of the walls along the sides of the entrance to the tunnel are completely bricked, on both the inner side and the outer side.

Looking through the chain link fence at Gate 2, some of the work on the inside of the concourse can be seen. Most noticeable are new light boxes along the wall that presumably will allow for additional signage inside the stadium.

Here's a closer look at one of the light boxes as seen through the chain link fence.

The new traffic signals at the corner of 25th Avenue and Jess Neely Drive are now fully functional, including Walk/Don't Walk signals that count down the seconds remaining for a safe crossing.
