Trailing 10-3 in the second half, Vanderbilt scored 21 straight points to down No. 24 South Carolina, 24-17. Before a national television audience Vandy's Jared Hawkins ran for tough fourth quarter yardage to put the Gamecoccks away.

The game featured big plays on special teams including a blocked field goal and a botched punt that gave Vandy possession deep in South Carolina territory.

Hawkins had 17 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown. His 13-yard fourth quarter jaunt gave Vanderbilt a 24-10 lead.

Chris Nickson, who rushed for a third quarter touchdown, also completed a 31-yard scoring pass to Brandon Barden in that quarter.

Vandy, 2-0, and on top of the SEC, will now have 9 days to prepare for the Rice Owls.

Check back for more on the game.
