VU Baseball Walks to Beat ALS

On Saturday morning, Coach Tim Corbin and the Vanderbilt baseball team joined the ALS Association in Centennial Park for the annual Walk to Defeat ALS. Whitney D. shares this photo gallery from the morning.

Baseball fans usually associate amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) with Yankee great Lou Gehrig, who died of the disease in 1941. But for Vanderbilt Baseball Coach Tim Corbin and his staff, there's a much closer connection.

In July of 2006, Keith LeClair, a long-time friend of Corbin and Assistant Coach Erik Bakich's former coach, died of the disease at the age of 40. It was LeClair who brought the two together when he recommended Bakich for a volunteer position on Corbin's staff at Clemson.

That's why Corbin, Bakich and the rest of baseball team were in Centennial Park on Saturday, participating the ALS Association's Annual Walk to Defeat ALS. Corbin and his wife Maggie were honorary co-chairs of the Walk, and the entire baseball team joined in.
