NASHVILLE-- Vanderbilt was plagued by turnsovers, special teams blunders and Florida's speed as the Commodores fell 42-14 to the Gators. It was Vanderbilt fourth straight loss.
Florida
absolutely dominated the first half as
Tim Tebow
ran for 2 touchdowns and passed for 3 others in the first two quarters. Teebow would go on to finish the game with 171 yards passing and 88 yards rushings.
Meanwhile,
Vanderbilt
managed only one first down in the first half. A blocked punt and a
Mackenzi Adams
interception gave the Gators easy field position for quick scores.
On the last play of the first half Vanderbilt backup quarterback
Chris Nickson
entered the game. Nickson, who started the first 5 games of the 2008 season, went on to lead the Vandy offense on two quality scoring drives against mostly Florida backups. Near the end of the third quarter Nickson found
Jamie Graham
in the corner of the end zone from 2 yards out to help Vandy get the its first points of the night. That drive spanned 81 yards in 15 plays.
With 5 minutes remaining in the game Nickson connected with
Sean Walker
to make the score, 42-14 after a 14 play 87 yard drive.
Later Vanderbilt drove to Florida's 33 but time ran out on the home team.
Vanderbilt falls to 5-4, (3-3 SEC). The Commodores will travel to
Kentucky
next week. Florida 8-1, (6-1 SEC) host
South Carolina
