Andre Simmons Update

VandyMania talked with Lorton, Va. safety prospect Andre Simmons who recently named Vanderbilt, Boston College and Rutgers as his three favorites.

Andre Simmons likes what he sees in Vanderbilt, “They are academically elite and they play in the SEC. They are also a team on the rise and they seem like they are on the way up.”

Simmons, who visited Vanderbilt in June, says he was first interested in pursuing a business education but now after visiting the VU campus has developed an interest in the Peabody School, “They have the Peabody School, so if not business maybe that.

Besides packing a very hard hit, football IQ is what Simmons claims makes him a good player. He says he is very good at making sure other players in the secondary are in the right place and lined up properly.

Despite trying to limit his contact with coaches so he can enjoy his summer, Andre says he talks to Vanderbilt coaches Belin and Caldwell often. He says the VU coaches think he can get some early playing time as a safety, “They tell me that they only took in one safety last year and that I’m their number one safety. They said they want me to come in and give me the opportunity play early and that there is not a lot of depth at the free safety spot.”

Simmons, whose team starts preseason practice on August 11, says that he will make his decision some time in September and that he is done with attending college camps.
