I sit here at my
home desk, and...
just wonder at the senseless losses we face. It seems it is getting worse all
the time. The total disregard for human life, the focus on the material, and the
will to go for that at any cost. Kwane Doster was a fine young man who worked
hard at being the best he could be. Reggie White proved his worth, spreading the
gospel and ministering to youth in impoverished areas. One fell to the
senselessness of today's world where others care nothing for human life and only
for themselves. The other was called home to God through a heart attack...much
too early in life.
Why?
This is a question I one day hope to ask
God. Why do bad things happen to good people. I have heard sermons on the
subject and have talked to many, from my side (when my son was born with down
syndrome, to others similiarly situated, to deaths in the family), and from
others losses or setbacks. Yet no one has ever really given a real answer. Just
that all things happen for a purpose. We don't have to like them, but someday
most will find out why things happen.
So why did Kwane Doster have to
die? I don't know. I may never. But I think that we, as Vanderbilt faithful
should try to do something that will make that wasted life live on. A Kwane
Doster scholarship. Or a foundation for the similarly situated in poor areas.
Something. Something connected with Vanderbilt, its alums, the team and coaches.
Who there is close that can come up with something like this. I'm definitely too
far away, but I can write a check. We need to band together and show the world,
the NCAA, the Doster family, and those thugs who committed this cowardly act
that we will not be taunted, we will not be defeated, we will not let Kwane
Doster die. We can make his name live on, in something that of which he would be
proud.
So, is there anyone out there who could spearhead something like
this? I think it would be a wonderful thing to do.

I think the Kwane scholly idea is a great goal. I have sent an e-mail to the
Commodore Club about it and hopefully something will be done.

I am more than willing to donate what I can. It wouldn't hurt if some of us went
to Mcgugin with the idea. I called the Athletic office and left a message with
my name and contact information. The office is closed for the holiday's I
guess.
GO DORES!

A scholarship would be a fitting tribute and actually very likely...I think we
first need to make sure his family has everything they need to handle what has
happened to them, though. I hope the AD will be helping to coordinate our
efforts in that department.
McGugin is probably operating with a
skeleton crew today (12/27), as most university offices are closed and there's
probably no one around to answer the phones. Tomorrow is a normal work day, so
they should be available in the morning.

In addition to my
prayers...
I would consider it an honor to contribute monetarily to anything which allows
Kwane's memory to live on at Vanderbilt.
