I so totally agree...

Did you see the guys on the sidelines holding up the one finger for Kwane, just after Earl's brilliant catch to move the ball down to the red zone, right before the winning TD...I just felt in my heart that we were going to score then. These kids put it all on the line, for a fallen teammate. And I think they were all thinking about Kwane when the final horn sounded. Gosh, I love these guys and am so proud of them all!

Kwane Doster Remembrance Bracelets
Vandy Fanatics, the student spirit group, has organized the selling of Kwane Doster Remembrance Bracelets. These bracelets say "Always a Dore #1." The remembrance bracelets have been purchased with support of other student organizations so that all the proceeds can be donated to the Kwane Doster Endowed Memorial Fund. This fund will be formally announced at halftime of the men's basketball game, with Kwane's family present. They are being sold for $5 a piece, and they are silicon, embossed wristbands just like the popular LIVEStrong bracelets.

The bracelets will be available at the Bookstore kiosks at Memorial Gym on Saturday and Sunday. They will also be available at campus Varsity Markets.

Please help support the memory of our fallen Dore!

Always a Dore #1

As noted below, any other questions can be posted here and I can find out the answers or you can contact Kathryn.

Victim's Compensation Fund
I wonder if anyone has told Mrs. Doster about the Criminal
Victim's Compensation Fund ? Most states have that and I feel sure that Florida does. In most cases, that fund will pay for the funeral of a victim and also give the victim or survivors
monetary help. This varies from state to state, some pay as
much as $10,000 others pay $25,000.

Not trying to overstep my boundaries here but if anyone ever
deserved such a fund it is Mrs. Doster. The starting place would be with the DA. If I knew her personally I would call her
and suggest that she inquire about this but since I do not know her personally, would one of you that do check into this ?

Re: Victim's Compensation Fund
qmissy,
Please tell Kwane's family our love and prayers are with them. It's just so unfair that such bad things have to happen to such good people. I hope that the memorial fund that the players' parents set up is growing rapidly and will help the family in some small way to recover.

Kwane will always be #1 in our hearts!!

Info on Kwane Doster Memorial Service on Friday
From VU Media Relations...

---------------------------------------

Nashville, Tenn. - The family of Vanderbilt student-athlete Kwane Doster is expected to attend an on-campus memorial service Friday to celebrate the life of the former Commodore football player.

Numerous speakers, including Vanderbilt Chancellor Gordon Gee, football head coach Bobby Johnson and Vanderbilt students with close ties to Doster, are expected to participate in the service, scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., in Benton Chapel. The chapel is located at the Vanderbilt Divinity School, just off 21st Avenue South between the Owen Graduate School of Management and the main library.

The Doster family also will join in a special ceremony scheduled Saturday during halftime of the Vanderbilt-Florida basketball game. Gee, Vanderbilt Vice Chancellor David Williams and representatives of the Vanderbilt Student Government Association and Vandy Fanatics organization will participate in a presentation to the family at halftime.

Doster, a 21-year-old native of Tampa, Fla., was killed by gunfire in his hometown on Dec. 26 while sitting in the backseat of a friend’s car. A junior majoring in Human and Organizational Development, Doster was a three-year letterwinner on the football team and one of squad’s most exciting players. He was expected to return for his final year in 2005 as the team’s leading active rusher and one of the top kickoff specialists in school history.

The Friday service in Benton Chapel is open to the public. Seating is limited.

The Rev. Gary White of the Vanderbilt Chaplain’s Office will lead the one-hour service on Friday. The Rev. Roy Young, pastor of Doster’s hometown church, also is expected to speak.
