J2M presents his Vanderbilt most valuable players for the Vanderbilt-Wake Forest game. This week George Smith, Richard Kovalcheck, Reshard Langford, Jonathan Goff, Theo Horrocks, Marcus Buggs, Gabe Hall and Curtis Gatewood are honored.

Vanderbilt 17
Wake Forest 31

MVP

George Smith (VM/Stan Jones)
#88 George Smith

Well, if you were at the game you know that George deserves this award for his effort on Saturday. On a day when the Commodores offense was virtually non-existent in the first half George was a lone bright spot making several catches to try and get something started. In the second half Smith appeared to be the go to guy for Richard Kovalcheck and was instrumental in getting our offense in somewhat of a groove for a little while. George also stepped his game up (much like Alex Washington last week) in support of his banged up teammates at the wide receiver position. George finished with 7 catches (his season high) for 94 yards (led all Commodore receivers).

Offensive Stunner

Richard Kovalcheck (VM/Stan Jones)
#15 SENIOR Richard Kovalcheck

In the first half the Commodore offense struggled at even the basics of offense 101. It was clear that Mackenzi Adams for one reason or another was struggling to move the offense. Coach Johnson looked at his options and wisely chose little used senior Richard Kovalcheck to come in and provide the 'Dores with some sort of a spark. Richard struggled to say the least on his first few possessions but ended up with a fine senior day. Richard threw two touchdowns in that second half one to possible departee Earl Bennett and another to soon to be departed Bryant Anderson. In the end the Dores failed to recover an onside kick that might have led to Kovalchek's third passing strike and Wake Forest was able to run out the clock on Kovalchek's comeback and Vanderbilt's season and bowl hopes.

Defensive Stunners

Reshard Langford (VM/Stan Jones)
#33 Reshard Langford
Jonathan Goff (VM/Stan Jones)
#47 Jonathan Goff
Theo Horrocks (VM/Stan Jones)
#54 Theo Horrocks
Marcus Buggs (VM/Stan Jones)
#24 Marcus (I don't need a helmet) Buggs
Gabe Hall (VM/Stan Jones)
#56 Gabe Hall
Curtis Gatewood (VM/Stan Jones)
#48 Curtis Gatewood

Saying you guys will be missed is an understatement in its truest form. Thank you for the privilege of getting to watch each of your careers while you gave it all for Vanderbilt each and every Saturday. You guys were leaders on one of the finest defensive units I have ever seen at VU. Your effort did not go unnoticed.

Thank You.

Last but not least,

Earl, if you go I can't blame you but just in case you decide to stay I will keep my #10 Bennett jersey out of the frame until Goodell calls your name.

Conquer and Prevail!
