Coach Stallings was torn in his post-game conference following Vanderbilt’s 76-69 loss to Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt Classic. He knew that some of his players had given him everything they had. Regardless, Stallings knew that a few weren’t playing up to par. At the end of the day, he recognized that the Commodores fell apart.

NASHVILLE-- A.J. Slaughter scored 27 points as Sun Belt opponent Western Kentucky delivered an embarrassing, 76-69, loss to No. 24 Vanderbilt. The Commodores suffered the loss in their own backyard at the Sommet Center in the second game of the 2009 Sun Belt Classic. Tennessee defeated Middle Tennessee, 75-54, in the earlier game. The Commodores didn’t absorb a 79-68 loss on Tuesday night against Illinois because of turnovers (only 10), free throws allowed (only 13), or rebounding (a minus-3 differential, 28-25). Kevin Stallings’s club was eclipsed by the Illini because of defense, or a lack thereof. Full Story

CHAMPAIGN, ILL— Demetri McCamey scored 23 points and D.J. Richardson added 16 as Illinois handled Vanderbilt, 79-68. The Illini stormed out to an early 9-0 lead and led by at least seven the rest of the game as Vanderbilt dropped their first game after making it back into the top 25. Full Story

The Commodores kept the ship on course with a 67-54 victory over DePaul last Saturday to push their record to 6-1. Kevin Stallings needed the foul line to be a difference maker for his club, and sure enough, the charity stripe donated to the Dores, who had 15 more makes in a game they won by 13 points.
